Prototype 1:

Assignment:

  • Design an analog sport, with teams consisting of no more than 3 people.

  • The game has to include some kind of prop.

  • 10 min rounds

Idea:

Wallball was the first prototype in the course. We made a tour out of it to find inspiration for props to the game. The idea ended up being some kind of ball game, with a custom made game area. The ball of choice were a plastic ball the size of a football.

The game:

Wallball suggests a skill based gameplay (Agõn). On the original play field the players would also be able to bounce off the ball on wall and the ceiling to hit specific boards to gain points.

MDA:

M: Running around the field and all interactions with the ball and each other. Arguably there is a contact point at the line dividing the player areas.

D: Fast paced, mix between offensive and defensive.

A: Excitement, stress

Modifications:

To include chance in the game the play field could be augmented. Obstacles such as geometrical shapes could be put in to bounce off the ball in uncontrollable directions adding chance.

A joker from each team on the opponents play field to keep the speed of the game. Like seen in dodgeball.
